How Does Clip-on Golf GPS Rangefinder Work?

Updated on June 9, 2021 by Michael Sparks Leave a Comment

It clips on anywhere you wish, connects the satellite, loads the nearest courses, and measures the green distances. These also calculate the hazard or layup length; very few show you the scorecard, course shape, and deliver audio messages.

How Does Clip-on Golf GPS Rangefinder Work?

The full working process of a clip-on golf GPS rangefinder is described here with just a few steps.

How Does Clip-on Golf GPS Rangefinder Work FI

How Does It Start?

To start the clip-on GPS rangefinder, press the power button. You may find it at the top of the unit. After turning it on, it will start to connect the satellite and load the golf courses near you.

How Do They Work?

Now we will show how the tool does its job with a golfer.

Battery Life

Its battery is probably the lithium-ion battery, which delivers 15 hours of battery life in full GPS mode.  You can simply recharge with micro-USB at the bottom, simply just plug-in like your phone. It is better to make it fully charged before playing a course. Complete the setup needed watching the instruction guide, set the clock time.

Shows the Courses

After connecting the satellite, it will show the nearest courses on the screen. It may take thirty to sixty seconds (varies from device to device). From those, press the up and down buttons to select the course you want to play and push the OK button.

Distance Measuring

The GPS rangefinder will immediately show you a hole or flagstick and its yardage distance. They show the distance to hazard and layup with the actual length from the front or back of the course greens. In addition, some of the models bear the shape of the course, scorecard of the match, and stat-tracking.

Note: It mainly works by providing the GPS signal to a satellite. Satellite collects all the information about the nearest courses and sends it to your GPS rangefinder. So, how the clip-on GPS rangefinder will work depends on how strong or how sensitive its GPS signal is.

Want to Switch the Flag?

If you want to select the other targets, go back to the home menu, select the option named “Move Flag”, choose up and down buttons for moving the pin locations. After selecting your flag or target, press the OK button and fix it.

Updates the Courses

The Bluetooth function here keeps the course updated (golfers can also connect it via phone). The model named G10 bears 42000 courses around the world.

Ensures More Features

Without measuring the distance of the target, it is also ready to perform the following tasks.

Ensures More Features

Can Attach Anywhere

The clip-on golf GPS rangefinder may come with a magnet on the back to stay attached to the cart. Its magnet is said to be quite strong. You will also get a little clip for hanging on a belt, pocket, or golf bag. So, easy access when you need them!

Lasts For So Long

This clip-on rangefinder is available in a rugged plastic case. So, if you drop it, it may not cause any damage or malfunction.

A Multifunctional Device

There are several features given below which you can choose while playing golf.

Digital Scorecard

It keeps your scores and stats while golfing. The rangefinder may analyze scores online too.

Good Display

Clip-on rangefinders generally bear an easy-to-read display (maybe nearly 1.3-inch square) working under sunlight. It is very easy for any golfer to read the large numbers shown on the display!

Odometer

Odometer tracks your steps in a course.

Finds Sand Traps

The device helps to identify the sand traps with the water hazards.

Versatility in Languages

Garmin Approach G10 shows commands in eleven languages!

Sets on Hats

There is a clip behind the rangefinder that helps to set the machine on hats, caps, shirts, or glasses. It is very lightweight (nearly .25 oz) and very easy to wear.

Connects the Satellite

Simply push the button, it connects with the satellite and loads the course you are playing. Then it will collect the information of the accurate distance from your location to the center of the green and convert it into an audio message.

Note: It can be a better choice for the golfers who feel disturbed to watch the rangefinder display again and again to know the accurate distance.

Availability of Languages and Courses

After purchasing it, you must download a suitable app for the rangefinder on your smartphone. Then you will wirelessly connect the two devices and do browsing of course. The GoGolf GPS rangefinder is available in over 3000 courses in 35 languages.

Should I buy a golf watch or rangefinder?

A GPS golf watch can only give the measurement of the length to the front, middle of the back of the flagstick. On the other hand, a rangefinder gives the distance from the location you are standing to the pin. It gives accurate data.

How to update my Bushnell Golf GPS Rangefinder?

Updating the new courses in your Bushnell golf rangefinder is not a big deal at all! Go to the page named ‘My Device’ and there select the ‘Update Golf Course’ option. Then put the course name in the Search Bar, a list will come and select the course from the below list.

FAQ

Q: Is golf GPS accurate?

Ans: If there is a clear sky, calm weather, and better satellite condition, then your golf GPS rangefinder will deliver accuracy within 3 to 4 yards. In-face GPS and laser rangefinders are considered the most accurate rangefinders in the market.

Q: Are rangefinders dangerous?

Ans: Never buy cheap laser rangefinders. If you aim the laser ones directly in your eyes, you may be temporarily blind!
