Updated on October 17, 2019 by Michael Sparks Leave a Comment

Installing golf grips was never a rocket science. Only a few easy steps and you can get it done by yourself. Besides, you won’t be needing much of equipment or time to get this done. Despite the myths, re-gripping golf clubs is quite easy.

Here, I’ve laid it all down crystal clear for you.

Removing the Old Grip

You can use any hooked blade or any regular blade to get this done. But if you’re not using a hooked blade, you’ll be needing a vise grip.

Now, if you’re using a hooked blade, use it to cut off the grip by sliding it to the opposite side from yours. And then you’ll just have to grab a hold of it and remove it. But if you’re using an ordinary blade, the scenario will be a bit different.

Now you’ll have to set your clubs in the vise grip. While you’re doing so, make sure that the club’s perpendicular to the floor. Now, slide the blade in the opposite direction to yours. Once you’ve cut the grip, pull it off.

Removing the Grip Tape

It’ll become a mess if you just try to peel off the grip tape, as you’d try with duct tape. Here you’ll HAVE to use a heat gun. You’ll have to be using the heat gun to heat up the tape, this way the glue of the tape will loosen up a bit.

Once you’ve heated up the tape, you can easily remove the grip tape in just one go.

Cut off a piece of the grip tape, but make sure that it’s about a cm larger than the grip you’re about to install. But first of all get a new golf grip.

Once you’re done cutting a piece of the grip tape, paste it on your naked clubs.

Now you’ll have to squirt some solvents on the grip tape pasted on the club. Once you’ve done that put a generous amount of golf grip solvent inside the new grip by sealing off the hole on the end of the grip with your fingers.

Shake the grip nicely to makes sure that there’s a coating of the grip solvent all over the internal surface of the grip. When you’re done doing that put the solvent inside the grip on the grip tape to create a coating of solvent.

This part of the process is very easy. You’ll just have to slide the grip on the club. Once you’ve slid it in as much as you could, you’ll take it off from the vise grip and bang it on the floor a couple of times.

Viola, you’re done re-gripping your clubs.

Conclusion

Many golfers even many avid golfers can’t muster enough guts to re-grip golf clubs by themselves. Man believes that it’s really hard to get this done. So, here’s how to install golf grips by yourself. Only a few steps and you’ll be done.
