Kirkland Signature Golf Balls Review

Updated on April 29, 2020 by Michael Sparks Leave a Comment

Even a year ago, if someone said something about reviewing Costco’s own brand of golf balls, it would be a pretty lame joke. But here we are, it’s all about the hype and it’s real, it’s logical. Could you imagine a four-piece high-end golf ball for just about 15 bucks a dozen? Well, definitely not before Kirkland signature golf ball was here.

Before I even start Kirkland Signature golf balls review, I have to mention that this ball went out of stock twice. It’s not only for the price and also for the quality. The ball offers bulky and softcore, Urethane cover. There’s nothing you can bring up that sets it apart from those 50 bucks for a dozen golf balls.

The Cost

I usually don’t prefer talking about the price right at the beginning of reviews, but this time I had. Costco’s selling this at around 15 bucks whereas premium golf balls cost around 40 to 50 bucks. You see, how big the gap is?

I wouldn’t get all pessimistic because of the cheapo price, they’ve promised to deliver the quality and effectiveness of that of a high-end golf ball.

But there’s more to choosing a golf ball than just price. These Kirkland Signature Golf Balls are high spinning balls. Probably you’re not ready for these yet. But still, Costco’s thrown a pretty irresistible deal at you.

Should You Be Buying This?

If I think it’s not for you then who’s it for? Well, these are for single digit players. Players who repeatedly shoot single digits, unlike those 14+ players. These are for players who take advantage of it’s spinning nature. You’ve seen players who work the ball from this side to that, it’s for them.

The Cover

Just like most other premium high-end golf balls the Kirkland Signature also comes with a Urethane covering. These offer a relatively softer feel arguably with most other golf balls. Even those which are priced way higher than this.

The soft Urethane covering is what offers maximized spin. But such a feature comes with a price, it doesn’t last long. Over time the covering comes off piece by piece. The whole surface then becomes all rough and like it has scratches all over. And if you intend to have a spin with that ball, it’s not gonna happen.

P.S. The trajectory of the ball’s flight gets all messed up if you’re using a ball with a rough surface. And you can’t expect it to give a proper swing.

Soft & Bulky Core

Speaking in comparison with other golf balls out there this one’s core is larger in diameter and softer too. This makes things a lot easier for players having slow swing speeds. The core significantly amplifies the impact of their swing.

A bulky core ensures that most of the energy from the clubhead gets absorbed. Whilst a soft core having a significant elasticity gives the ball that boom, making it go faster and further.

The Mantle

I believe that you’re somewhat familiar with the Magnus effect, the mantle works on reducing that effect. You see that the ball goes off into the air in some cases. This gives a player more control over the ball.

Another fundamental purpose that the mantle serves is giving the ball some more softness. Regardless of how soft the core is, it’s still quite hard for what we consider to be soft. Many players who have experienced playing with a two-piece ionomer golf ball share their experience like they’ve been hitting a rock with their clubs.

Outer Core

This facet of the ball does magic. Manufacturers making a four-piece golf ball can compensate for many factors and qualities in this part of the ball. It elevates the feel and spin of the ball. By means of this part of the ball, manufacturers create a near ideal version of the ball.

Visible Color

A great aspect of the ball is its color, it’s definitely not something to be bragging about the ball. But it saves a lot of time on the course, you’ll find it way easier than balls of some other color.

Apart from finding it out amidst the green of the course, the color helps keep track of the ball on air. I mean you can follow it with your eyes while the ball’s airborne. And white makes it easier to play with this ball in the floodlight.

Great for Long Distance Shots

As I’ve mentioned earlier once, the ball adds a lot to its kinetic energy i.e. the motion. This makes it a great piece of the ball for long distance shots. It’s soft core and multiple layers make it like so.

Conclusion

The Kirkland Signature packs quite the hype. Costco’s providing more than just a cheap price tag with this. They’ve pushed in every aspect of a premium golf ball starting from bulky and softcore to Urethane covering. Everything about it reeks of a hefty price tag except it doesn’t.

There’s been some real hype regarding this all over the internet. So, here’s the Kirkland Signature golf ball review that’ll answer if its really worth the hype?
